Daily Job Seeker Tip: Tell me about yourself

February 10th, 2011 | Interviewing | No Comments »

It’s one of the most common interview questions, but you may still be uncertain about how to best answer it.

You know the basics: don’t tell your life story from childhood through today, and don’t ramble on for hours. But beyond that, what exactly is the best answer? Ultimately, it depends on what the interviewer is looking for in a candidate.

Make sure you’ve done your research about the company and, if possible, about the person who will be interviewing you. Look back to the job description, read the career section of their website, and network with people who work there. Give them what they’re looking for by way of a brief description of your most recent work experience and biggest accomplishments. You can briefly recap your resume, but try to give them more than what they can get from simply reading your application.
