Death of the Desktop?July 12th, 2013 | Hiring Resources | No Comments »
Office desktops may be old news, but does their presence mean that a business is little more than a dust-covered relic? Not quite, but a recent survey of CIOs suggests that desktop computers will be as obsolete as typewriters in less than 5 years.
Some experts predict that we will rely on a bring-your-own-mobile-device-to-work model. For now, those devices are subject to security breaches but could become more impenetrable in the coming years.
Other experts imagine offices that are truly interactive. They conjure up screens that can detect motion – navigating through files with a flick of the wrist – and desktop holograms that can project 3D workflows and designs. A bit far-fetched? Only time will tell as the traditional desktop disappears.
